Congratulations are in order for Eric Lenk who passed his Private Pilot check ride today at KLGU with Examiner Clair Shaffer in Cessna 769NE.

All aircraft are in great working order and most have at least 20 hours remaining till the next maintenance cycle. Winter is coming soon so get out to the airport for a flight before the first snows come our way.

Seminole 331GP returned to Logan today to spend some time here to finish up some multi-engine training for our commercial and other advanced clients. If you want to do some multi engine training in Logan now is your chance so stop by!

This evening we kicked off the Aviation Career Seminar that will be held weekly in Logan. Topics will range from networking in aviation, turbine aircraft systems, crew resource management(CRM), interviewing strategies, and any topics you would like to hear about to help you in your aviation career. Join us weekly on Thursday at 7pm at Leading Edge Aviation in Logan, UT. All are welcome to attend! And yes, there will most likely be some refreshments floating around.

Monthly Breakfast and Airplane News

Saturday the 12th of September is once again our monthly breakfast at our Logan location (KLGU). The breakfast is held in our hangar and free food is provided to all who come. Please come and bring your friends from 8:00AM to 10:00AM. Fuel will be discounted for those that attend the breakfast. We always have a great turn out and are looking forward to making some new friends.

On the flight line, 769NE recently returned to Logan after a 100-hour inspection down at Ogden. After getting a bath she is ready to go flying. The Seminole 331GP is back in service after getting a new engine on her right wing and is back in Salt Lake. The 172RG 988PP was down for quite a while for the 100-hour inspection and has recently returned to service.

All of the other aircraft have at least 30 hours before maintenance is due and are anxious to go flying. We look forward to seeing you at the airport!

Logan Aircraft Status

769NE (Cessna 152) has 33 hours left till the next 100 hour and is running great as always. 35207 (Cessna 172S) just returned from Ogden where she got her 100 hour inspection and is ready to do some serious flying. 461SP (Cessna 172S) has about 38 hours left till the next phase is due and is anxious to do some more flying before the summer days start to fade away. 1632M (Cessna 182P) has 77 hours remaining until her next 100 hour inspection and is running great!

Our Piper Seminole 331GP is still in maintenance and our mechanic Kim Hall is hard at work hanging a new engine on the right wing. She should be back on the line in about two weeks.

988PP (Cessna 172 RG) just timed out and returned to our Logan location to have the 100 inspection completed and to give Kim some time to track down the problem with the alternator system.

Pacific Prowler

On Thursday the 18th of June a historic World War II aircraft made a brief stop at the Logan Cache Airport. The Pacific Prowler is a North American B-25J Mitchell Bomber. The Pacific Prowler was deployed to the Pacific Theater during the War and flew over 120 missions. Visit the Pacific Prowler website for more information about her history and how to get a ride.

Big Fun at the Leading Edge Open House

I've always been a sucker for airplanes, and the yearly Leading Edge open house at Cache Valley airport gives me a chance to drool over them as long as I like. Mostly, I ogle other people's machines, but sometimes, I take up a Cessna 172 or our RV-9, to join the fun. This year, I got my first turbine time. Thanks to pilot Trevor Hunter, and some help buying fuel, I got a lesson in a RAF trainer jet--a 1963 Provost. Slipping the 'surly bonds' has never felt quite so, well, powerful. From the first 3-g climbing turn, I thought my head would explode from sheer bliss. Trevor let me take the controls for a few minutes, and I took a few timid turns before he showed me how to turn it on a dime--which tipped the world on its ear in a hurry. After that, he showed me a roll and let me try one myself. We wheeled and soared and swung, but not in the sunlit silence, because I kept laughing and making timely, important comments, like "wahoo."

Still dizzy from the dance aloft, I run into John Kerr on the ramp, showing off his Hatz Classic, a replica of a 1930 Waco RNF he built from the ground up. The biplane had turned into a glider on the third of its virgin flights (number virgin flights limited to the imagination of the pilot), when the engine quit cold. Nonplussed, John eyeballed his distance from the runway and figured he'd have time to check off a few more maneuvers before heading for the numbers. I try to get more drama out of him, but he won't have it. Smirking, he says, "there I was, at 7,000 feet, when it got real quiet...." John says he has a list of people waiting for a ride, but I don't care. I gaze at the burgundy fuselage and silver wings and tell him to put me on the top of that list. Seems like just the thing in which to touch the face of God.
